Two-Factor Authentication

Video walkthrough: Watch on Loom (link coming soon)

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a second check at login: after you type your password, BreederBuddy texts a 6-digit code to your phone. Even if someone learns your password, they can’t sign in without your phone — a simple way to keep your kennel’s records safe.

What You Can Do Here

  • Turn on SMS-based two-factor authentication for your account
  • Use any US or international mobile number
  • Sign in with both your password and a one-time text code
  • Turn 2FA off if you change phones or no longer need it

How It Works

Turning 2FA On

  1. Go to Settings and open the Two-Factor Auth tab.
  2. Click Enable two-factor authentication.
  3. Enter your mobile number. For US numbers, type the digits. For international numbers, include the country code (e.g., +44 for the UK).
  4. Click Send code — a 6-digit code arrives by text.
  5. Type the code into BreederBuddy and confirm. Two-factor is now active.
If you signed up with Google or your password was changed recently, BreederBuddy may ask you to re-confirm your identity before sending the code.

Signing In with 2FA On

  1. Enter your email and password as usual.
  2. BreederBuddy texts a 6-digit code to your phone.
  3. Type the code on the verification screen and you’re in.

Turning 2FA Off

  1. Go back to Settings → Two-Factor Auth.
  2. Click Remove two-factor authentication. No code is needed to disable it.

Tips & Common Questions

Double-check the phone number (and country code if you’re outside the US). Try the Send code again option. If it still doesn’t arrive, reach out through the chat in the bottom right and we can help.
You need to verify your email first. BreederBuddy will prompt you to check your inbox for a verification link. Click it, then come back to enable 2FA.
There are no backup recovery codes yet, so if you change your number you should turn 2FA off first, then turn it back on with the new number. If you’ve already lost access, reach out to support and we’ll help you get back in.
No — it’s included with every BreederBuddy account. Standard text message rates from your carrier may apply.
