Litters

Video walkthrough: Watch on Loom (link coming soon)

Litters is where you manage every breeding from start to finish — from the date you bred your pair through neonatal check-ins after whelping, all the way to each puppy going home. Every litter has its own full profile with photos, puppy records, finances, and a linked waitlist.

What You Can Do Here

  • Create and track litters from planned through born and completed
  • Record sire and dam — your own dogs or external dogs you don’t own
  • Add individual puppies and track each one’s status
  • Run daily neonatal check-ins (weight, ENS, ESI) on every puppy
  • Link a waitlist so you can see exactly who’s in line for this litter’s puppies
  • Log expenses and income tied to a specific litter
  • Apply a care schedule to auto-create tasks for the litter
  • Add photos, documents, and events
  • Track the buyer journey for each puppy through the Journey tab

How It Works

Creating a Litter

  1. Go to Litters in the left menu.
  2. Click Add Litter.
  3. Fill in the details: name, sire, dam, date bred, and expected whelp date.
  4. If the sire or dam isn’t in your program, check External sire or External dam and type their name.
  5. Hit Save. Your litter appears in the list.

Managing a Litter

Each litter has its own detail page with tabs:
  • Details — core info: sire, dam, dates, status, description
  • Litter — the list of individual puppies in this litter
  • Journey — visual workflow tracking each puppy’s status from born to gone home
  • Waitlist — waitlists linked to this litter (link, unlink, see who’s in line)
  • Aptitude — side-by-side comparison of aptitude test scores across puppies
  • Finances — income and expenses tied to this litter
  • Gallery — photos and media for the litter
  • Attachments — uploaded files (health certs, vet records, etc.)
  • Events — a log of events tied to this litter

Litter Statuses

  • Planned — breeding has been done or is planned; puppies not yet born
  • Born — puppies have arrived; litter is active
  • Completed — all puppies have gone home; litter is wrapped up

Neonatal Check-Ins

Once a litter is marked Born, BreederBuddy gives you a daily Neonatal Check-In so you can log weight, ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) for each puppy from day 3 through day 16. The Dashboard surfaces a “Daily Check-In” reminder for any active litter. See the Neonatal Check-In doc for the full walkthrough.

Linking a Waitlist

Open the Waitlist tab on a litter to link one or more waitlists. Buyers on a linked waitlist show up here, so you always know who’s waiting on puppies from this specific litter.

Applying a Care Schedule

You can attach a pre-built care schedule to a litter so that tasks (vet visits, deworming, etc.) auto-populate as events.
  1. Open the litter’s detail page.
  2. Click Apply Schedule and select a schedule from your library.
  3. Tasks from the schedule appear as events on the litter.

Tips & Common Questions

Yes — use the filter controls on the Litters page to narrow down by sire, dam, status, date bred, or whelp date.
